Fibre Channel Gen8 Update - 128GFC, Fabric Notifications, and Managing NVMe NQNs

The Fibre Channel Gen8 specifications are complete! In addition to defining 128GFC, these standards complete the definition of Fabric Notifications and add management of NQNs for NVMe over Fibre Channel (FC-NVMe). Fabric Notifications is a key resiliency solution for storage networks that provides the ability to respond to events impacting the Fabric; thus, enhancing the overall user experience when deploying traditional Fibre Channel SANs. This session explores the available solutions using Linux, AIX, ESXi, Veritas DMP, and PowerPath and provides a summary of their capabilities.

In addition, the new standards address challenge of configuring NVMe connections by including NQN objects to the Fibre Channel management server. This extends the robust discovery system of Fibre Channel to the FC-NVMe transport. Explored in this session are the additions to the Fibre Channel standard supporting NQNs and the commands used to register and query NQN information.
